<Omi Zarashi>
"Omi Zarashi" is a traditional processing method for Omi Jofu, produced mainly in Aisho-cho, Shiga Prefecture, that uses lye* to bleach the fabric to soften it and make it easier to dye.

(1) Drying the fabric in the sun for about 10 days or more while pouring lye over the fabric.
(2) The cloth is placed in a cauldron, cooked in lye, and dried in the sun. This process is repeated several times.
(3) The cloth is pounded with a wooden mortar, washed with water, and dried in the sun.
